How to Live in a World That Disagrees with You
You’re still right
What’s the genesis of how we think? How do we develop our points of view?
Why is there such a vast difference of opinion in politics, religion, climate, health, race, money, success?
It all comes down to perception. The way we perceive and interpret the world and those around us.
It’s this perception we use to determine our beliefs and the way we behave in our daily life.
Biases, fear, curiosity, are all perceptions influenced by society, associates, family, news, and accepted societal norms.
We Develop Comfort Zones
The biggest influence on our lives in my opinion is acceptance by others. We all want to be liked, respected, and appreciated for our work and our beliefs.
The problem with this powerful emotion is that the more ingrained we become in our beliefs and the more we are supported by friends and family the less chance there is for any opposing views to even be considered.
If we deviate from the group we’ll be out of the group.
We see this on social media and even on Medium. Write something contrary to what someone else thinks and they will come after you.
